Working from my home studio in a village near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, I paint watercolour miniatures on lace bobbins, depicting birds, animals, flowers and butterflies amongst other subjects. I paint mainly to order, commissions are always welcome. I can be contacted by message on the website, email, messenger, or on my Facebook page.
I come from a long line of Devon lacemakers and artists, so it was no surprise that I took up lacemaking and painting lace bobbins at an early age. My parents instilled in me an appreciation of quality art products, using only top quality paints and equipment. I use Windsor and Newton artist’s quality watercolour paints on my bobbins and finish with several coats of Ronseal Satincoat varnish. Bobbins that I painted in the 1980s are still vibrant and in perfect condition, testament to the long lasting qualities of the products I use.
All my bobbins are individually hand painted to my own designs using a very fine Windsor and Newton Kolinsky sable brush, capturing the fine detail of feathers, fur and minute detail in my favourite nature subjects. I have recently discovered the joy of painting on bone, being a smooth and delicate surface, giving a special quality to the finished picture. I am passionate about painting and commissions are always welcome.
I love meeting all of you at lace days and classes, although I may need to be reminded of names!
I always appreciate your lovely comments and pleasure at receiving a special bobbin.
Happy lacemaking to all you lovely lacemakers. Xxx
